Acrylic Powder FAQs

Acrylic powder is a powdery substance that is designed to be mixed with a liquid to create a beautiful and sturdy paste for the nails.

This paste hardens, helping to extend the nail with your chosen tips to create a durable nail extension. Acrylic powder can be customised in length and shape, allowing more flexibility when working with clients or on your own nails.

Available in a range of colours, this powder is quick and easy to use, providing a long-lasting manicure (up to 4 weeks).

Yes! Acrylic powders are completely safe to use, making them a popular choice for professional nail technicians.

However, you must be cautious when using acrylic powder to avoid harmful fumes or damage to your skin and nails. As this releases fumes when mixed with a liquid monomer, it’s important to apply it in a well-ventilated area.

Always do a patch test before using any nail products to check for allergic reactions. Make sure you use the right tools and ratios of powder and liquid when using acrylic powder, as incorrect application can lead to issues like lifting or infections.

To apply your own acrylic nails from home, follow these simple steps:

  1. Prep the nails: Remove any nail polish and push the cuticles back with a cuticle pusher. Then, file your nails to the desired shape and buff the surface to remove any shine.
  2. Apply a nail primer: Add a thin layer of nail primer to your nails to protect the natural nail from damage. This will help the acrylic adhere better and prevent lifting.
  3. Attach your nail tips: Choose the length and style of nail tips you want to use and apply them to your natural nail with adhesive. The bottom edge of the acrylic tip should sit halfway down the surface of your nail.
  4. Prepare the acrylic liquid and powder: Pour a small amount of acrylic liquid monomer into a dappen dish. Then, pour some powder into a separate dish.
  5. Dip the brush: Dip your nail brush into the acrylic liquid monomer so it’s fully saturated but not dripping. Wipe the brush gently to remove any excess. Then, dip it into the powder until it creates a small ball of acrylic mixture on the brush that is firm and slightly wet.
  6. Apply the acrylic: Now, start at the base of your nail near the cuticle and gently brush and pat down the acrylic ball into your nail. Smooth it out and shape it so it covers the tip neatly, working quickly before it hardens. You can build the acrylic layer one bead at a time, adding more beads as needed to build the nail.
  7. Shape and sculpt: Now, use the brush to smooth and shape the nail, creating an even surface. Apply the acrylic in small beads to ensure control over the shape and thickness.
  8. Allow to dry: Let the acrylic dry for 5-10 minutes until it hardens.
  9. File and shape: Once the nails are completely dry, file any imperfections and gently buff the surface to create a smooth texture. You can re-apply the acrylic if necessary, once you have the desired shape.

There are many benefits to using acrylic powder to create long and beautiful nails. These include:

  • Durability: Acrylic nails are resistant to chipping and can last up to 4 weeks. This is perfect for people who are looking for something that can keep up with their active lifestyle.
  • Easy to shape: Acrylic powder is easy to shape and manipulate, making it ideal for both nail technicians and beginners.
  • Versatile: This powder can be applied to both natural nails and nail tips to create extensions. It can also be shaped into different forms, making it perfect for creating all types of nail art.
  • Variety of finishes: It comes in a variety of colours, and it can be mixed with glitters, pigments, and other decorative elements to create basic to intricate nail art.
  • No drying time: Unlike traditional nail polish, acrylic nails do not require a drying time under UV or LED lamps.
  • Helps with nail growth: Acrylic nails can offer support and protection for people with weak or brittle nails, allowing natural nails to grow without breaking.
